The fascinating Jewish cemetery in Sudylkiv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast was first visited by ESJF in 2019, as part of the European Commission-funded pilot project, “Protecting the Jewish Cemeteries of Europe”, at which time it was overgrown and used for cattle grazing, putting the graves on the site at risk.
In 2021 ESJF with the support of Geder Avos and American Jewish philanthropic organizations cleared the site, demarcated the boundaries, and erected a fence around the cemetery. With this new work, we are thrilled to report that this cemetery, which stands as a testament to a community whose heritage in the region traces back to the 16th century, is again safe.
