The fascinating cemetery in Tarnoruda contains around 60 preserved tombstones, some dating back as far as 1712. However, when ESJF first visited the site in 2019, as part of our European Commission-funded pilot project, “Protecting the Jewish cemeteries of Europe”, it was severely overgrown, putting the graves at risk of deterioration and disappearance.
In 2021 ESJF with the support of Geder Avos and American Jewish philanthropic organizations cleared the site, demarcated the boundaries, and erected a fence around the cemetery.
